During the month of August, our congregation places one blue flag on our front lawn for every life lost to drug overdose in Dutchess County during the previous year. Additional flags that the public can inscribe with their loved one’s name and memorial message are available. We host an outdoor candlelight vigil recognizing International Overdose Awareness Day, (which is on August 31st) on or about August 31st. We want to help heal the shame and stigma associated with substance use disorder and break the silence about how it affects people from all walks of life.
